"Our Valley, Our Future" Breakfast a Huge Success!
What a wonderful celebration of Skagit agriculture, at the first ever SPF “Our Valley, Our Future” Breakfast! More than 150 guests attended and were inspired by the innovations taking place in the Skagit Valley. The morning began with three awards, recognizing contributions to agriculture—past , present and future. Honorees included Dr. Gene Sargent, whose past work was instrumental in creating the 40 acre minimum lot size for ag land in 1979; Wayne Carpenter of Skagit Valley Malting for his work to add value to the rotational crops of wheat and barley, which he can custom-malt using machines he developed; and Hope Patrick, a Junior at MVHS who is actively involved in her FFA Chapter, an accomplished student and a respected leader among her peers.Featured speaker Peter Janicki delivered a moving keynote address and update on the Janicki Bioenergy OmniProcessor, which is set to make a universal impact on worldwide sanitation and available drinking water in the developing world. Many people made this event special, including Skagit Bank and other sponsors, the Farmhouse Inn for making a delicious breakfast, Fidalgo Bay Coffee for helping us wake up, our Board of Directors and Staff and our generous guests who showed their support and helped raise more than $11,000 that morning! We are grateful for the outpouring of support and generosity, and humbled by the love that our community has for Skagit agriculture. THANK YOU for making our first annual event so memorable!
