You Did it! Thank You!With an average of 20 phone calls and emails a day over the last three weeks, your voices let the proponents of the proposed Avalon development and the Board of Skagit County Commissioners know that we should direct urban growth into existing Urban Growth Areas instead of creating sprawl.On Friday, March 8th, Skagit Partners LLC, the development group behind the proposed Fully Contained Community of nearly 4,000 homes, has agreed to voluntarily withdraw their application until such time the Skagit County Countywide Planning Policies are amended by following the process outlined in the 2002 Framework Agreement.What does this mean?While Skagit Partners LLC has withdrawn their application for review under the 2019 docket, they have asked Skagit County to seek a change to the Countywide Planning Policies or to create a code path that would allow citizens to petition the Growth Management Steering Committee directly for a change to the Countywide Planning Policies. This means that although the project has been withdrawn for the time being, the developers are still seeking a way to legally move forward with the project in the future. We will continue to stay engaged with Skagit Partners LLC and Skagit County as Skagit Partners LLC seeks to advance their proposal through the Growth Management Act Steering Committee, and will keep you informed as we do.From all of us at Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland, thank you!
